Silent Hill: origins my impressions

Hello, I just bought silent hill origins and a first time SH player. I really like the game so far. It reminded me of RE series from ps1 console back in the day. I even tried playing it in the dark with headphones on and it was very creepy at times. I read a few reviews by players on how the game is too short. Can someone give me an idea how long it will take to finish from start to finish if you play it and not explore every little detail in the game? how hard is the game in beating bosses? i was looking for a creepy game for the psp and this game fits this genre perfectly. critics review are bad though but i think they fail to realize some people don't care for new innovative things and wants things that actually works and worked in the past. a psp game to have above average graphics, music, and suspense should be a 8.0+ game. combat sucks but this game is more of exploring the world rather than fighting all out. Silent Hill: origins my impressions
How about making that into a review.Silent Hill: origins my impressions
Silent hill: Orgins -- GET it or SKIP it?!

OK since I am playing a silent hill game for the first time i will not be biased and compare it to SILENT hill games made in the past. First of all SH: O is a horror/action game for the psp with lots of exploring to do in a town called silent hill. The song at the beginning is a song called O.r.T by Mary Elizabeth. If you are a fan of video games music, look it up on you tube and you will probably end up liking it. I have played resident evil 1/2 for ps1 back in 96' or 97' and this game felt just like that. You go inside a building. you explore the inside of that building, go from room to room, look around for items/weapons/puzzle hints and will come across monsters every now and then. Every encounter will get your heart beat running the first few times at least since the music picks up. By the way, the music and environment in this game is absolutely perfect for a horror genre. It might have been done in the past and most of you probably seen it before, but for me it felt like a great experience. The combat system is sluggish. There is delay when you punch and there is no blocking either. The melee combat could definitely get better in the future but It didnt bother me at all. After pummeling a monster with your bare fists or a melee weapon of your choice from the environment, you get to ''finish'' the downed opponent by just hitting one button. If you don't do that they get back up and you fight all over again. There is a lot of doors to open. Lot of the times you will be running into locked doors/jammed doors that can be opened later on as you progress. you will also be checking the map a lot and the map is very good and precise. you also mark the doors that you have explored or you did not explore on the map so that way you don't have to memorize which door you have not tried in the past in your own memory. There is also the ''other world'' that you can switch to by touching any mirrors in the game. you can go back and forth from that mode and normal mode as many times you want whenever you want. there are also firearms in this game, but you are better off saving all your bullets to use in boss fights. i highly recommend this game to people that never played a silent hill game or horror genre games before in consoles. This game is also for people that are looking for something different. This game has quite a number of puzzles as well that you have to be patient in order to solve. most of the puzzles solutions are on you tube so you won't have difficulty solving them provided you are OK with puzzles. those puzzles are things you pick up along the way as you explore the world of silent hill and most of the items can be found as you explore. If you have played silent hill games before then there is almost nothing new for you in this game besides getting additional story back ground that sets you up for silent hill 1. on a 10 scale 10 being highest, 1 being lowest)

Gameplay: 7

graphics:8.5

story: 7.5

music: 9

level of difficulty: above medium

replay value: could play it once again after finishing the game all the way through but i wouldn't want to play for a 3rd time

hours of gameplay: its a short game, most people will finish it between 5-10 hours if they play without breaks and they use walkthroughs if they get stuck.

buy it if you find a 2nd hand copy for cheap. its good to have this in your collection and friends will definitely be amazed by it if they never saw a silent hill game before

this game is probably not one for the roads or in between classes. play this game in a dark room with headphones and your door closed, you will get scared.. and the best part is.. its a PSP game that scares you!

Man i have to admit i liked your review (seriously). Even that was my first SH game, and i enjoyed it.

As for longiviety i think it took me around 7-9 hours to complete this game but then i played it while looking in every nooks/corners.

happy gaming
I loved silent hill origins and wrote a drunken review on this very website, it includes horrible spelling and punctuation . I've been a fan since the first Silent Hill played them all as they came out and loved them all (was a little dissapointed with 4 but played the crap outta it.)I think gamespot is a little obsessed with ''NextGen'' and tend to think old school = crap. but of course there are still plenty of us out there playing our old Super Nes and Genesis Emulators and waiting for the next traditional sonic game etc.Not everyone feels comfortable relearning how to play every game some people just wanna relax after they have a hard day at work etc.
I really liked your thoughts...why haven't you made it into a review yet?My only argument is that while its a good game, it's honestly not meant for a ''portable exerpience.'' After all, many people have pointed out that you have to have headphones %26 be in the dark. I've tried playing this on roadtrips and I quickly loose interest in it. Usually it's late at night %26 when I'm to lazy to go into the living room do I actually play this game. Can't wait for SH: Shattered Memories!
my save file says 6 hours to beat, but that translates into two whole weeks of playing it

Game is really creepy, which is awesome, combat is like that on most of the silent hill games, only on this one the melee weapons you find, break.

I played it on daylight with headphones, still was scary as hell, bosses aren't that though, the game is a bit more about the puzzles and exploration. For me it was the first silent hill game I ever beated, I really liked it, tried to get into the other ones but never did
