hi guys
my boyfriend turns 21 in august this year, and for about a year, i've been planning on getting him a psp and a bunch of games as the main part of his present.
now, i don't exactly know a lot about video games. i mean, i have a wii and a ds, but i'm a very casual ''gamer'', so to speak.
so let me just explain the situation, and get your opinions.
the house we are currently living in has a ps3 which belongs to our housemate. we are in the process of looking for a new home, and will hence be leaving the ps3 behind. so in our new house, we will have a wii, but that's about it. i thought about getting him a ps3, but:
a) we have terrible TVs. we are planning on buying an LCD together towards the end of the year, but for now, we have possibly the worst TV in history.
b) i think a ps3 would be less exciting, since we basically have one now. he's never owned a psp, none of our friends have one, and so i think it would be a more exciting present
so i was thinking a psp.
thoughts? of course, it's not until august, so hopefully there's a new one by then... possibly? is it expected to cost more than the current psp?
thanks everyone!! :)thinking about the psp...
Is your boyfriend a casual or hardcore? Also, don't buy a PSP now. Wait for E3 to make sure if any price drops or new releases are mentioned. (E3 starts on June 1st and gets over on the 4th)The PSP has a lot of great games but it all depends on whether or not your boyfriend likes them (if he's hardcore he should know about most of the series mentioned). Keep these games in mind before buying a PSP :Final Fantasy VII : Crisis Core
Tekken Dark Resurrection
Tales of Eternia
Resistance Retribution
Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
God Of War - Chains Of Olympus
Killzone Liberation
Secret Agent Clank
Prinny Can I Really Be A Hero
Daxter
Patapon
Patapon 2
Ratchet and Clank Size Matters
Syphon Filter Dark Mirror
Syphon Filter 2 Logan's Shadow
Jeanne De' Arc
Final Fantasy Tactics---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------thinking about the psp...
thank you very much for your reply :)
he is a casual gamer, i'd say. like, some days he will get lost in a game and play for 8+ hours, but usually it's just a bit here and there.
I will definitely get him Tekken and Metal Gear Solid (he loves both of those). He also really loves sport games. How is the psp for that? FIFA, NHL etc.
To tell you the truth, I hate Sports and Racing games lolAnyways, the PSP has some decent Racing games. Check this LinkAs for Sports games, the only decent one I found was MLB 06: The Show.
SoccerHockeyBasketballBaseballGolfAnd for my own recommendation, do you think he'd be interested in the game Lumines(loo-mihn-ess)?EDIT: Woo Hoo! Post 300!!! Or was it 1200...
If hes a casual gamer then you should probably steer clear of the RPG genre for the PSP.In that case Ill try a recommend some titles that others havent said already:
Resistance: Retribution
Lumines
Medal of Honor (both of them are fairly good)
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (great, but difficult game)
Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Warhammer 40k Squad CommandIf you think he likes RPG games than let us know because a whole slew of options open up.
get GTA Vice city stories, GTA Liberty city stories, Resistance retribution, and if he likes sports then get madden 07 and MLB 08 or 09 the show. Yes they are old but they are good games that are cheap.;)
thank you all for the games recommendations!! :)
what are the graphics like on the psp? like, in comparison to say the ps2/wii/ds. i've never played a psp in my life. sorry for being an ultra-noob...
Graphics are excellent for a handheld. The PSP has slightly worse graphics than the PS2. But its still great for a handheld.

There's no limit to graphics on the psp.
You can watch movies on there and they look amazing; the games on the other hand, you'll see the developers aren't stingy with the amount of CGI they use.
In comparison to the ps2, it's not as good, but has the potential to be better.. if that makes sense. Better than the Wii and DS by a longshot though.

Lol, it's only a sig, man.
Do what i do and type something stupid.
...High 5! xD
I think you shouldn't compare ps3 and psp, becouse they are home and portable consoles. If he doesn't like sitting in home you should buy a psp and the games you buy should be compared to the game type that he likes.
